Responsibilities as a user of and contributor to this site

By using this site, you indicate that you consent to the information practices disclosed in our Terms of Use (hereafter the Agreement) and the Terms of Use for UBC websites.

Use of the FACET site is for lawful and non-commercial purposes only. As a user/contributer, you may not attempt to gain illegal access to any user information, services or computers through hacking, password mining or any other means.

Copyright and use of content

The FACET site contains content created internally and by third parties. This content includes, but is not limited to: individual biographies, journal articles, video clips, feedback comments, and stories. All materials published on the FACET website are protected by copyrights or trademarks of third party partners. You may not publish, modify, broadcast, partake in the transfer or sale of, duplicate, create plagiaristic works of, distribute, display, or in any way exploit any of the site’s materials or content, whether in part or in whole. FACET is not responsible for any direct, indirect, special, or incidental consequences resulting from your use of this site. The information provided on this site is not intended to be a substitute for medical, legal, or other professional advice.

The FACET site contains links to internet sites owned by third parties, the use of which is subject to the conditions, if any, of each site. FACET has no control over third party sites and is not responsible for any changes to or content accessed through them. Nonetheless, FACET seeks to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these third party sites.

Privacy

Personal or contact information provided is securely stored in password protected files on servers hosted at the University of British Columbia, Canada. FACET does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer identifiable information to outside parties. FACET treats data as an asset that must be protected and use a number of mechanisms (encryption, passwords, physical security, etc.) to protect your personal information against unauthorized access and disclosure. However, there is always a risk of unlawful third party interception or access resulting in abuse or misuse of your personal information. Therefore, although FACET employs numerous measures to protect your privacy we can not guarantee, and you should not expect, that your personal information will always remain private.

FACET may release your information when it is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property, or safety.

With your permission, FACET may share your contact information with our other research projects on tobacco reduction or family health that are recruiting participants.

Use of Cookies

Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow), enabling the site or service provider systems to recognize your browser and capture certain information. The FACET site uses cookies to gather general visitor information and track visits to our website in order to assist in evaluating our knowledge translation and exchange activities, to further tailor tobacco cessation interventions, and to improve our website.

Links to the FACET site

If you wish to create a link from your website to the FACET site, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to create a hypertext link to FACET under the following conditions:

  • You will not represent FACET in a false, misleading, or slanderous manner;
  • You will not place any part of FACET within a frame or nested page on your site.

In the event that you do not abide by these conditions, FACET reserves the right to revoke this license at any time.

Trademarks

All trademarks appearing on the site are the property of their respective owners. No right, license or interest to such trademarks is granted by this Agreement.

The software and technology that underlies the operation of the FACET site is the property of the University of British Columbia. By accepting this Agreement, you agree not to modify the software underlying this site in any manner or form, not to use modified versions of the software to allow unauthorized access to this site, not to duplicate, distribute, modify, sell, reverse engineer or transfer any right to the technology or software underlying this site, nor to use any automated mechanisms (including but not limited to: spiders, agents, robots or scripts) to access, monitor, or duplicate any part of this site.

In addition, you agree that you will not use the FACET site for any of the following purposes:

  • To engage in any illegal activities;
  • To gather or accumulate personal information about other users;
  • To interfere with or disrupt the FACET site, servers or networks;
  • To transmit files that contain viruses, Trojan horses or software or programs that may damage or negatively affect the operation of another person's computer.
Requests to remove specific content from the site

If you believe that a posting is inappropriate, inaccurate or misleading; or if you believe that content you own has been copied and made available in a manner that infringes your intellectual property rights, please contact us directly regarding your concerns via healthyliving.research@ubc.ca.

Your request to remove specific content from the site must include the following:

  • An email address, telephone number, and an appropriate time of day during which you can be reached;
  • A description of the material you claim is inappropriate, inaccurate, misleading or infringes your intellectual property rights, and the location of said content including the web page address (URL) of the page in question.
  • In the event of a claimed infringement of your intellectual property rights, FACET requires a statement that you are acting in good faith and that you believe the use is not authorized by the copyright owner or the owner of the intellectual property rights.
Termination

If there has been a violation of this Agreement, FACET reserves the right to take any of the following actions in our sole discretion without giving any prior notice:

  • Suspend or terminate your access to all or any part of our site;
  • Remove any material that you have submitted to FACET.

You agree that FACET will not be liable to you or any third party for taking any of these actions.

The Agreement and your relationship with FACET under the Agreement, shall be governed by the laws of the province of British Columbia and the ethical guidelines established by the University of British Columbia.

Online Agreement only

This Agreement applies only to information collected through the FACET website and not to information collected offline.

Changes to the Agreement

Changes to this Agreement may be modified at any time without notice. Such changes will be posted on our site at (www.facet.ubc.ca/termsofuse.aspx).

Your continued use of this site constitutes your binding acceptance of this Agreement, including any modifications that are made.
